Accidental Love

AccLove2On June 19th, the ginger stepchild of David O. Russell will finally make an appearance: formerly known as NAILED and briefly rebranded as POLITICS OF LOVE, it will hit cinemas as ACCIDENTAL LOVE.

ACCIDENTAL LOVE follows the story of a rollerskating waitress (Biel), whose unfortunate encounter with a nail gun drives her away from her trooper fiancé (James Marsden) as she embarks on a mission to pin down ditzy Congressman Howard Birdwell (Furby-eyed funnyman Jake Gyllenhaal), and demand he introduces a health care bill which will help facilitate the removal of the nail in her head. Her petition evolves into a meet-cute, and a disastrous love story unfolds.

“You can’t fix a brain with crazy ideas!”

NAILED was conceived on a HUCKABEES rebound: a sharp political satire, written by Al Gore’s daughter Kristen, and driven by lead actor Jessica Biel. Shooting started in 2008, and following Russell’s precipitate departure, producer Kia Jam picked up the pieces and reworked the project, crediting it to the fictional “Stephen Greene”. It marks a turning point for Russell – a transition from feisty indie icon to the figurehead of modern successes such as SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK. Catherine Keener and Beverly D’Angelo make an appearance alongside Paul Reubens, and ACCIDENTAL LOVE also offers the opportunity to enjoy and celebrate the work of comedian Tracy Morgan, who suffered a serious and immobilising accident last year.

Look out for our review of ACCIDENTAL LOVE later this month.
